Parabolic subgroups, Einstein solvmanifolds, and submanifold geometry.
II Congreso Latinoamericano de Grupos de Lie en Geometria,
I will talk about the geometry of homogeneous spaces and homogeneous submanifolds,
related to the solvable parts of parabolic subgroups of semisimple Lie groups.
Such solvable Lie groups provide examples of Einstein solvmanifolds
(some of them have nonpositive sectional curvatures),
homogeneous minimal submanifolds in symmetric spaces of noncompact type
(some of them are austere),
and polar actions (but not hyperpolar) on symmetric spaces of noncompact type.
